Washington (2011) explains that homelessness is a significant problem affecting youth. To start, Washington refers to the importance of understanding the phenomenon of homelessness among young individuals. Then, the author asserts that this population faces unique challenges and requires specialized attention to the various factors contributing to youth homelessness, including family instability, poverty, and inadequate support systems. After that, she continues the existing gaps in the literature regarding homeless youth and emphasizes the need for a clear conceptual framework to guide research and interventions.
